AAUW is open to all graduates with an AA or equivalent or higher degree from accredited institutions as well as college and university students in undergraduate programs. With Association headquarters in Washington, DC, members number over 100,000 in the U.S. In California there are over 14,000 members in 150 branches plus 6,000 members-at-large. The AAUW Laguna Beach Branch, chartered in 1967, has a membership of about 150.

Why join AAUW?

AAUW offers opportunities to network with other interesting intelligent women and make a difference in the community.The branch’s social and cultural events focus on a variety of exciting and timely topics. Special interest groups also meet monthly to discuss art, literature, poetry, and international interests. AAUW sponsors several community outreach programs including scholarships and tutoring in local schools and Tech Trek summer science camp for 7th grade girls. Here are some reasons why you should join.

  • Tap into a national network Members of AAUW branches become involved in community action projects, meet new friends, and develop their leadership skills.

  • Make a difference in your community and the nation. Members impact elections, mentor young women, sponsor community forums, host science and math fairs, lobby legislators, and influence school board policy.

  • Change the classroom. Members use the AAUW Educational Foundation's ground-breaking research to advocate for K-12 classrooms that are gender fair and free of sexual harassment.

  • Plug into Capitol Hill. Members influence legislative debate on gender equity, civil rights, pay equity, education, health reform, vocational education, family and medical leave, and choice.

  • Build a firm foundation. Members support the AAUW Educational Foundation, which funds fellowships and grants for outstanding women worldwide, and the AAUW Legal Advocacy Fund which provides funds and a support system for women seeking judicial redress for sex discrimination in higher education.

Diversity. AAUW values and seeks a diverse membership. There are no barriers to full participation in our organization on the basis of gender, race, creed, age, sexual orientation, national origin, or disability.

Student Affiliates. Undergraduates and those returning to college to finish a degree may join as student affiliates. It is easy to switch to regular membership after receiving your degree. Students may affiliate at a special reduced dues rate.

Or, you can just download a Membership Application from this website, fill it in, and mail it with your check to the address listed on the form.
